425-418-8888 - Our Popular Tomahawks On Sale Now!
NOTE: Due to Thanksgiving, this item will ship 11/30.
The 16-inch Throwing Tomahawk is easy to carry around, and still does a great job at throwing and outdoor use. It's also a favorite among smaller axe throwers. Our straight-grain, quality handles are made of American Hickory--the most popular hardwood for throwing hawks.
All HatchetsandAxes.com products are 100% guaranteed against manufacturers defects. Most of our tomahawk heads are hand-forged, and our professional blacksmiths inspect each product to ensure they are free of defects. If you should receive a product with any defect such as cracking, we will replace it for you free of charge.
Each handle is carefully coated with beeswax to ensure a secure grip and reliable protection. Our handles come sanded smooth, splinter free and this wax coating makes for an amazing grip (even when your handle gets wet). Be sure to check out our upgraded handles, which feature the same great straight grain hickory but come in a beautiful walnut stain, or a lovely laquer for a nice contrast of dark and light wood grain (all are coated with wax).
NMLRA stands for the National Muzzle-Loading & Rifle Association. HatchetsandAxes.com is a proud support of the NMLRA as well as provider of throwing tomahawks that follow the specific regulations of the NMLRA hawk throwing rules.
Each blade is hand forged from high carbon steel. The steel we have chosen has been selected as a result of diligent testing and ensure strength, durability, and long term reliability. Due to the nature of steel, each head will come with a light protective coating to prevent rusting.
All our throwing tomahawks come standard with 100% USA-made straight-grain hickory. Our hand-selected hickory comes from the world famous Appalachian mountains. These handles are built to last and are a proven combination of affordability and reliability.
Each blade is sharpened to ensure maximum penetration under current NMLRA rules and regulations. These blades are not designed to be extremely sharp (like the type you shave with). Our blade edges are far from dull, but they are sharpened only enough to hold a sharp enough edge for typical cutting & throwing scenarios.
HatchetsandAxes.com has professional blacksmiths that produce all of our tomahawks and axes. Our forge is dedicated to producing top quality products. In our case, hand forging results in the most durable, long lasting and highest quality products. Yeah, it's a more traditional approach, we know that. But we stick with it when other companies try and cut corners and drop forge their products.
If you want to introduce tomahawk throwing to women or children, the 16” Half-Axe Throwing Tomahawk will do the job for you. Getting them interested in the fun sport of throwing will be much easier if they are given a handy tool that is never too heavy for them. The lightweight construction of this product makes tomahawk throwing more relaxed and lighter.
The Half-Axe tomahawk (as we call it) is perfect for scouts, youth, and anyone who wants to get more acquainted with throwing. It is a great intro before transitioning to bigger tomahawks--although some find that they become loyal fans! Don't be fooled by the name, our Half-Axe gets the job done, and with greater portability, it's a breeze to take camping, and fun to use on smaller targets! Buy this tomahawk today and start practicing your throws!
These tomahawks are perfect for scouts! Check out our Scout Special Throwing Tomahawk Station Kit for more deals for youth camps, scouting groups, and parties. If you find that you have scouts that can't handle the heavier stuff, you'll know by their inability to hit the log most of the time, then this is the tomahawk for them!
Remember, all youth need competent adult supervision, and safe axe-throwing rules. Besides, you wouldn't want to miss out on the fun!
*Note: The tomahawk head is unsecured from the handle. This is done on purpose for two reasons. First, in our experience, a pinned or otherwise secured head breaks the handle much more easily. At hard enough impact, our pressure-secured heads will simply come loose--just tap them back on and you're good to go, with your handle lasting much longer! The second is for your being able to customize and interchange handles to your liking.
You know what they say about Hickory right? It is "time tested and logger approved"! American Hickory is the most sought after wood material to use for your axes and tomahawks. All the premium Swedish and German axe makers import American Hickory for their handles and proudly advertise it. We selected Hickory because it will take more abuse than maple or birch or ash. And on top of that, it is much more affordable.
Grain refers to the direction of the "veins" of the wood. Wood will split easier if you are cutting against the grain. When chopping wood you try to cut along the grain to split the wood. Cross-grain handles would split with the force of throwing/chopping. Straight-grain are the most durable handles available.
Our tomahawk handles are uniquely-crafted. They are sanded smooth and then given a wax coating. This wax coating prolongs the life of your tomahawk handle, provides a more secure grip, and prevents splintering for an extended period.
