Why Straight Grained Wood?

Grain refers to the direction of the "veins" of the wood. Wood will split easier if you are cutting in the direction of the grain. When chopping wood you try to cut along the grain to split the wood. If you were to use cross grain handles it just wouldn't make sense for throwing (they would break much easier). By selling only straight grain handles we are offering you the most durable handles available.

Axe throwing is found in nearly all lumberjack competitions. Typically, a throwing axe target is a stump around 3 feet wide with a target drawn on it. The typical competition is based on your ability to precisely throw your large axe over your head and hit your target within the rings. The closer to the center of your target, the better accuracy and the more points you gain. The traditional point system is from 1 to 5 points. There are five rings drawn on the target. The outer ring is 1 point and the bullseye is 5 points. Give yourself five throws and see what you score! Typical distance is about 20 feet from the target.
